Belfast, Maine – The award-winning Comfort Inn Ocean’s Edge will become the Fireside Inn & Suites Ocean’s Edge on January 1, 2014.  The Comfort Inn in Belfast is owned by Lafayette Hotels of Bangor.  “We have chosen to end our franchise relationship with Comfort Inn,” said Barry Asalone, General Manager.  “This was a tough decision because the Comfort Inn brand has been good to us over the years, but we believe that operational decisions are better made by the owner than the franchisor.”

When the Comfort Inn franchise agreement came up for renewal, Lafayette Hotels opted not to extend it. Contracts with national hotel brands are very restrictive, occasionally even prohibiting upgrades that exceed brand standards.  Converting the hotel to a Fireside Inn & Suites will allow Lafayette Hotels to greatly enhance guest services and amenities.  For example, Fireside Inn & Suites uses Keurig coffee brewers and serve Green Mountain coffee.  They use Bath & Body Works soaps and shampoos.  All rooms have a refrigerator and microwave.  Some rooms have: fireplaces, massage chairs and Tempur-Pedic beds.

“We are excited about the change,” said Asalone “and we look forward to offering the same award-winning service delivered by our excellent staff.” In addition to the hotel, the on-site Ocean’s Edge Restaurant will continue to serve first-class cuisine.

Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-303-5098 or online at www.belfastmainehotel.com.

The Fireside Inn & Suites brand is a New England based brand, owned and operated by Lafayette hotels.  The Comfort Inn Ocean’s Edge will become the eighth Fireside Inn & Suites in the Lafayette portfolio.

Lafayette Hotels is a Maine based hotel company with thirty owned and managed hotels in Maine New Hampshire and Michigan.   There are Fireside Inn & Suites properties in Bangor, Belfast, Waterville, Auburn and Portland, Maine and in Gilford, West Lebanon and Nashua, New Hampshire.
